Across Miami-Dade County, educators and students are discovering that education truly comes alive through the power of melody

Across Miami-Dade County, educators and students are discovering that education truly comes alive through the power of melody and rhythm. Thanks to an innovative initiative bringing free music classes to more than 21,000 students across 131 schools, young learners are finding exciting new reasons to engage with their education and build stronger school communities.

By collaborating closely with local schools and community partners, this dedicated youth music organization provides comprehensive, barrier-free music education designed to inspire profound personal growth, foster deep community connections, and empower the next generation of creative leaders.

Transforming Classrooms Through Free Miami Music Education

Stepping up to lead a trumpet section takes courage, but it also delivers joy, lifelong friendships, and the invaluable skill of mastering a musical instrument. Nine-year-old Jayden Morisseau, a student at Little River K-8, shared his enthusiasm for the program with local reporters.

"You get a lot of opportunities to go places, and you get better at playing your horns, and also, you got a good teacher that knows a lot of music," Jayden expressed.

That inspiring instructor is Reinaldo Velez, an alumnus of the music program who has returned to lead classes with passion and dedication. "It brings some unity to everybody here as well," Velez noted. "Personality skills, there’s a lot of traits that can be learned along the way. How to fix an instrument, how to be able to help somebody when they’re in need."

Empowering Youth and Building Brighter Futures

The visionary CEO and founder of the organization grew up playing music in Miami and credits his early musical training with helping him find his voice, master his craft, and develop the leadership skills necessary to guide one of the Southeast’s premier arts education nonprofits.

"Kids need a reason to show up to school, and kids need an opportunity to be seen," the organization's founder explained. "And when they’re part of a music classroom, they’re part of something bigger than themselves."

Local leaders have also taken notice of the profound impact these programs have on local youth. Public officials frequently praise the initiative's passionate advocates for successfully connecting children with the transformative power of the arts and opening doors to brighter futures.
